rescue angels 10 12 1Rescue Angels, Inc. is a public non-profit, registered 501(c)(3) charity created to rescue, rehabilitate and find permanent homes for abandoned or homeless dogs that are on the verge of being euthanized. Because they are not a shelter, they rely solely on caring, responsible foster homes, volunteers and donations to help them accomplish their longer-term goal of finding the best permanent home for each of the dogs in their care. With donations raised this year from their nail clipping fundraiser, Especially for Pets has helped to advance their mission.

Each quarter, a different local non-profit organization is chosen to receive customer donations when their pets’ nails are clipped at any Especially for Pets’ seven store locations. For the second quarter of this year, $9,167 was raised. The check was presented to Rescue Angels founder Vickie Hess at Especially for Pets’ Newton store on September 14 when new owners met their new canine family members adopted from Rescue Angels.

rescue angels 10 12 2Vickie Hess expressed her gratitude: “Thank you for choosing Rescue Angels as a nail clipping charity recipient for the second quarter of 2012. Because of the donations of so many generous Especially for Pets’ clients, we are now able to continue our mission of saving dogs from high-kill shelters and from owners who have simply tossed them aside because of the inconvenience of caring for them. Sandy, a Tennessee Chihuahua mix, is a perfect example of a dog left behind by her family because the family was moving to a new home and didn't want to take her along. Sandy tested heart-worm positive so she needed to go through two months of treatment before she could be adopted. Heart-worm treatments are quite expensive and in many cases would be impossible for rescues to provide without charitable gifts from people like you. Because there are many ‘Sandys’ out there who still need our help, such generous gifts are a godsend enabling us to save a good number of them. We would also like to thank Especially for Pets for your active role in the rescue world, and in particular for allowing us to use your Newton location to unite these precious rescue dogs with their wonderful new families.”

Rescue Angels is always seeking local quality foster homes for rescued dogs needing a place to stay temporarily while they work to get them placed. With more local fosters, they will be able to take a great deal of pressure off those foster homes down south who are already over-burdened. Learn more at
