Tambor3Volunteer puppy raisers provide specially-bred puppies a safe and loving home, take them to obedience classes, provide them with a healthy diet and socialization opportunities, and give them lots of love for the first 18 months of their lives. Ultimately these puppies will learn how to retrieve items from the floor, open doors, turn light switches on and off, open and close drawers and pull a wheelchair.

Leslie Zelamsky is not only our full time director of Dog Training at Especially for Pets but also a longtime puppy raiser and advocate for Canine Companions for Independence (CCI). She recently spoke to The MetroWest Daily News about her rewarding experiences working with future assistance dogs.
