Breeding Love for Pets
Especially for Pets opens store in Westborough
By Bob Tremblay
Pet
owners are already purring over the opening of Especially for Pets Inc. in
Westborough.
“People are saying we’re so happy you’re here,” said Amy Lord, spokeswoman
for the Newton-based company. The pet store’s grand opening celebration
takes place on Saturday.
“We
felt there was a need…in this area for an independent supply store,” said
Lord, explaining why the pet food and supply company set up shop in
Westborough.
It
already operates stores in
Acton,
Sudbury,
Wayland and Newton, and plans to open a sixth store in Medway in the spring.
Billed
as a pet store created by pet lovers for pet lovers, Especially for Pets
sells premium pet foods and supplies while its services include grooming,
dog training and pet care educational seminars. It also serves as a
resource for pet adoption and rescue services.
In
addition, its Pets’ Natural division, started last year, features a variety
of natural products. The company’s interest in holistic pet care and an
increased public awareness in natural products is the basis for this
division, said Lord.
“A lot
of people are taking care of their own bodies. They’re health-conscious,
and we offer healthful products for the pets too,” said the Maynard
resident. “We want to provide people with the best products they can for
their pets.”
The
company was started 15 years ago by owner Michael DiTullio.
“We
really care about fostering the best relationship between the pet and pet
owner,” said Lord, explaining the company’s longevity. “We get involved in
all aspects of pet care from products and services, but we also refer people
to shelters and veterinarians and raise money for local shelters.”
Located at 153 Turnpike Road (Rte. 9, next to Boston Interiors), the new
store opened two weeks ago.
It’s
grand opening event takes place from 10 to 4 p.m. and will include dog
training demonstrations, raffles, giveaways, pet vendors, adoption
information and a “Pet Star” talent contest. All proceeds from the raffles
and contests will be given to the Massachusetts Animal Coalition Spay/Neuter
Program at Tufts University.
