Especially for Pets Makes $4000 Donation to The Massachusetts Animal Coalition Spay/Neuter Program – Thanks to the Generosity of Customers Like You!
The Massachusetts Animal Coalition (MAC) was formed in February 2000 by animal welfare professionals and volunteers who are dedicated to the welfare of animals. They wanted to make a difference by collectively helping those animals that needed them the most. MAC members have initiated task forces on a number of fronts including: reshaping the image of shelters in Massachusetts, helping to improve communication among groups working to place animals, compiling a list of animal services in Massachusetts, and promoting animal-friendly legislation. In addition, the Coalition decided one of the key ways to accomplish their mission was to start a spay/neuter program for shelters and rescue organizations.
In November 2003, the MAC/Tufts Spay/Neuter Program was created. This
program is held at the Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine at the Grafton Campus. In a unique partnership, Tufts generously allows MAC to use the new Luke and Lilly Lerner Spay/Neuter Clinic. While the MAC program is a separate program from the university, MAC has access to the Tufts state-of-the-art surgery suite. Currently operating the program on Fridays, MAC plans to expand to two days a week in the very near future.
Since November, over 350 unowned dogs and cats from Massachusetts shelters have come through the program and have been spayed and neutered. The benefits to Massachusetts animals and the organizations involved are immeasurable. The lasting relationships between Tufts, MAC and the participating organizations are also very important in the effort to work against animal overpopulation. It is truly a win-win-win for everyone.
This program relies on generous donations from corporations and individuals. In fact, MAC would like to thank Especially for Pets and their generous customers for the $4000 donation which was recently given to MAC to benefit the program! These funds came from in store seminar donations and nail clipping services which were offered in all five stores from October through December of last year.
