SPAY Awareness Day A Success!

Especially for Pets hosted its annual SPAY Awareness Day on Saturday, February 22, 2003. SPAY DAY was created by the Doris Day Foundation as a day of public education and awareness about the importance of spaying and neutering pets.

SPAY DAY is America's preeminent spay/neuter action campaign, that joins humane organizations, veterinary clinics, businesses and animal advocates to promote spaying and neutering as a primary means of ending the killing of homeless companion and feral animals. Spay Day USA participants have altered an estimated 835,000 animals since the campaign's inception in 1995. The Doris Day Animal Foundation (DDAF) is a nonprofit, 501(c) (3) organization founded in 1998 by legendary performer Doris Day

Especially for Pets partnered with Northeast Boxer Rescue this year. We also were supported by generous distributors who donated products that were raffled off for prizes; among them were: Arubacat Cat Furniture of Plaistow, NH; F.Y.D.O. of Fremont, CA; and Mountain Ridge Pet Supply of Nashua, NH. Bagel Butler of Acton and Starbucks of Sudbury donated food that we ‘sold’ for donations. We sincerely appreciate their donations which made our event a success. Finally, our staff volunteered their time to give dog and cat nail clippings in exchange for donations.

On our SPAY Awareness Day 2003, we provided information on the importance of spaying and neutering pets, as well as information about how to apply for low cost spay/neuter programs. We also held a coloring contest for children.

This year, all proceeds from our event went to Friends of Animals, Inc, an international, non-profit, membership organization that works to protect animals from cruelty, abuse and institutionalized exploitation. FoA's efforts protect and preserve animals and their habitats around the world. Their goal is to achieve a compassionate ethic in people's relationship with animals, wild and domestic, at home and abroad.

Founded in 1957, Friends of Animals is a U.S. headquartered, international, non-profit 501 (c) (3) membership organizations working to protect animals from cruelty and abuse.

Our plan is to continue this annual fundraiser in hope of raising more money and helping to spay and neuter more pets, as well as to educate the public during SPAY DAY 2004.
