"Falling for Felines" at
the Especially for Pets and MSPCA Shelter October Adoption Day
Methuen, MA - On Saturday, October
20th from 11:00am to 3:00pm at Especially for Pets in Acton, MA, our feline
friends will be the focus. If you love the sound of purring in your
ear, the sight of a cat basking in your windowsill and the calm of stroking
a cat on your lap, then come to the store and meet some of the wonderful
cats for adoption. Cats and kittens of every age and description
are in need of new homes.
People adopting a cat will receive a free
bag of Wysong food and, as always, adopted pets (and their owners) receive
a 10% discount at the store on all purchases for one month after adoption.
There have been approximately 49 cats
adopted from this offsite adoption program in the last year. The
organization of this event was a team effort lead by Lisa Forbes, the
staff of the MSPCA in Methuen and Amy Lord, Manager of Especially for
Pets. "We are very happy to be able to play a role in matching
up local Acton customers with cats from the Methuen MSPCA," said
Lord. "We want to thank our customers who have given homes to
the cats and kittens from the Methuen shelter over the past 3 years.
Anyone who has been considering adopting, please come and see the
wonderful cats in need of a loving family."
The MSPCA at Nevins Farm in Methuen offers
the following advice to pet owners this October:
- Children in costume can be frightening
for pets. The MSPCA urges families to keep companion animals inside,
safe from Halloween crowds and pranks. The MSPCA always
encourages cats to be indoors only, but it's especially important at
Halloween. Black cats can be especially at risk.
- It's very easy for your cat or dog to
run out the door when you open it to greet trick-or-treaters.
Put up a baby gate or better yet, put your pet in a closed room.
The activity and excitement of Halloween can be stressful and
confusing for animals, which may cause loose pets to run away.
If you need to let out your dog, it is best to use a leash.
- If you have rabbits in an outside hutch
or have chickens, geese, or any farm animals, leave an outdoor light
on illuminating their area. Check on them throughout the
Halloween night.
- Refrain from giving pets candy
treats. Chocolate and other sweets can be harmful to a pet's sensitive stomach. Specially made nutritious pet treats are
better to give to your cat or dog.
