92nd ANNUAL
HOLIDAY FOR HORSES AT FANEUIL HALL
BOSTON---The
Animal Rescue League of Boston presented its 92nd annual Holiday
for Horses today at Faneuil Hall, Santa Claus (played by Mike Thomas)
arrived by sleigh (on a pick-up truck) to hand out treats to horses from the
Boston Police Department, the Boston Park Rangers, and the MDC Mounted
Police. Santa’s elf had sweets for the kids.
This
tradition started in 1912, when horses provided much of the transportation
in Boston, especially in the Quincy Market area. Anna Harris Smith founded
the League in 1899 because of the mistreatment of horses in Boston.
Today’s event also incorporates Forgotten Pets Christmas, a toy drive
sponsored by Especially for Pets stores (EFP) and WCRB radio. In addition
to the customer donated, EFP itself made a generous donation to combine for
more than 600 toys that will help comfort pets in League facilities. EFP
President Michael DiTullio, Amy Lord (director of advertising and public
relations), and Robert Connery, of WCRB, made the presentation to League
President Arthur Slade. |
