Newly Adopted Dog
Dogs who have been through the stresses associated with abandonment, neglect, multiple homes, lost or stray, and then finally brought into a shelter or rescue, have a very specific set of needs. This unique training opportunity is designed specifically to address their adjustment and transition, as well as the establishment of a positive relationship for these newly adopted dogs and their families. In contrast to traditional obedience classes, this program will focus on behavior adjustments, establishing clear communication and leadership, and creating a solid foundation for future learning. Our goal will be for families to have a clear understanding of their new dog's mental and emotional state during this transition period; from the first homecoming through the honeymoon period, and to also recognize the common pitfalls and mistakes new adopters often encounter. Classes will include in-depth discussion and problem solving, as well as hands-on training. This class is offered in cooperation with our shelter partners and is for dogs six months and over who have been adopted within three months.
