  • "We are currently enrolled in your Puppy Kindergarten and have purchased crates, food, toys, etc. over the past two months from your Acton store and have always been very impressed with your service and selection. I am so happy with my experience that I have recommended your store to friends with puppies. Definitely a more personalized and positive experience than shopping at the large chain stores." - Janet W

Confidence Builder
Does your dog worry? Is he nervous when meeting other dogs, around new people, noises or places? This class is designed to give you training tools and techniques to help bolster your dog's confidence in himself and in you. Through thoughtful handling and communication, gentle exposure, obstacles and activities, we will help you help your dog.

This class is specifically for shy, nervous or under socialized dogs who could benefit from a calm environment and no stress opportunities to interact and build positive experiences and associations. This is not an obedience training class, but rather a collection of activities and behavior modification exercises with targeted discussions to help families of shy dogs understand how to increase their pup’s confidence and sociability. It is not designed for dogs displaying aggressive, loud or unruly behavior. Although these can be signs of nervousness, if your dog is reacting aggressively, please see our training opportunities that specifically address that behavior.

Prerequisite: None

Family Agility
Looking for a fun, new activity for the whole family to enjoy? Bring the family together in this safe and fun environment. No one will be bored during this upbeat and fast moving class. Your kids will love directing their dog through, over and under various obstacles. Your dog will build confidence and learn to take direction from the whole family. Everyone will be encouraged to work together to teach the dog while learning the rules for safety and positive, gentle, handling skills. As everyone progresses, we will practice sharing responsibility and taking turns, as well as team work. Family Agility will provide the opportunity for children to learn how their actions and attitudes can have an impact on their dog. Through kindness and compassion, they will take pride in their progress and success.

Greyhound Speciality
Congratulations on your very special adoption! Greyhounds are very intelligent, loyal and friendly dogs who thrive on love, attention and human companionship. Especially for Pets recognizes this and that is why we have designed this class to address the specific needs of retired greyhounds. The main goal is to develop a strong bond of trust between pet and owner using positive reinforcement. Our training philosophy is praise, focus and fun! This class will focus on basic obedience as well as some common issues associated with adopted greyhounds. Some of these issues include becoming a pack leader to your dog, socialization including other dog breeds, separation anxiety, sensitivity and how to develop confidence, and navigating the new environment, including stairs. Please, no dogs first class due to discussion length.

Newly Adopted Dog
Dogs who have been through the stresses associated with abandonment, neglect, multiple homes, lost or stray, and then finally brought into a shelter or rescue, have a very specific set of needs. This unique training opportunity is designed specifically to address their adjustment and transition, as well as the establishment of a positive relationship for these newly adopted dogs and their families. In contrast to traditional obedience classes, this program will focus on behavior adjustments, establishing clear communication and leadership, and creating a solid foundation for future learning. Our goal will be for families to have a clear understanding of their new dog's mental and emotional state during this transition period; from the first homecoming through the honeymoon period, and to also recognize the common pitfalls and mistakes new adopters often encounter. Classes will include in-depth discussion and problem solving, as well as hands-on training. This class is offered in cooperation with our shelter partners and is for dogs six months and over who have been adopted within three months.

Play & Train
This class is a combination of our popular fun playgroup and the skills taught in our more advanced classes. It will be primarily off lead and alternate between play, commands and behavior-based training. We will practice initial control and appropriate greeting when meeting another dog; appropriate and fun play, disengaging from play; and responding to a variety of commands including recalls, attention and stays. It is intended for dogs that already have a working knowledge of basic commands whose handler would like to take the next step to off lead training while giving their dog the opportunity to exercise and play in a safe, indoor environment. Dogs must be non-aggressive and well socialized with other dogs.

Problem Solver
Do you and your dog need a boost in communication skills around a specific problem or two? This workshop will help you solve some basic behavioral issues such as jumping up, pulling on leash and greeting people poorly. During each session we will address the most common questions in the group. One handler per dog, please.
