Greeting Manners
Does your friendly dog greet people with too much excitement? Does he jump up instead of politely sit when someone approaches him or comes into your home? This workshop will help you solve this common problem by teaching you to encourage your dog to remain seated and calm when he is approached for a greeting.

Greyhound Speciality
Congratulations on your very special adoption! Greyhounds are very intelligent, loyal and friendly dogs who thrive on love, attention and human companionship. Especially for Pets recognizes this and that is why we have designed this class to address the specific needs of retired greyhounds. The main goal is to develop a strong bond of trust between pet and owner using positive reinforcement. Our training philosophy is praise, focus and fun! This class will focus on basic obedience as well as some common issues associated with adopted greyhounds. Some of these issues include becoming a pack leader to your dog, socialization including other dog breeds, separation anxiety, sensitivity and how to develop confidence, and navigating the new environment, including stairs. Please, no dogs first class due to discussion length.

Loose Leash Walking & Equipment Workshop
Do you walk your dog or does your dog walk you? Are there so many different equipment choices and opinions that you don't know where to start? Struggling with leash control is a very common problem, but it doesn't have to be! This workshop will help you find the right, individualized, most effective equipment and teach you the appropriate techniques to help you better communicate with and control your dog. We will demonstrate and discuss a variety of training tools and help you choose the best option for you and your dog, and ensure the equipment is fit properly and you are well versed in how to use it. We will work with you and your dog to help establish good handling and to teach your dog how to walk politely. It will soon become a pleasure, not a chore, to walk your dog.

Newly Adopted Dog
Dogs who have been through the stresses associated with abandonment, neglect, multiple homes, lost or stray, and then finally brought into a shelter or rescue, have a very specific set of needs. This unique training opportunity is designed specifically to address their adjustment and transition, as well as the establishment of a positive relationship for these newly adopted dogs and their families. In contrast to traditional obedience classes, this program will focus on behavior adjustments, establishing clear communication and leadership, and creating a solid foundation for future learning. Our goal will be for families to have a clear understanding of their new dog's mental and emotional state during this transition period; from the first homecoming through the honeymoon period, and to also recognize the common pitfalls and mistakes new adopters often encounter. Classes will include in-depth discussion and problem solving, as well as hands-on training. This class is offered in cooperation with our shelter partners and is for dogs six months and over who have been adopted within three months.
